A Personal Understanding of the Needs of Older Adults
Board Member Joseph Haddad’s journey with FriendshipWorks began with an introduction to former Executive Director Janet Seckel-Cerrotti. When she told him about FriendshipWorks’ mission to foster social connection and positively impact the health and wellbeing of older adults, he couldn't help but think of his own father and grandfather. Joseph personally understood how important FriendshipWorks’ commitment to fighting social isolation is, which motivated him to become an active contributor to the organization as a board member.
In his role as the Director of Sales at Commonwealth Care Alliance, Joseph manages a team who educates older adults about their healthcare options, which gives him a deep understanding of the needs of older adults. His passion for making sure the most vulnerable of our society get access to healthcare, together with his expertise in community outreach are great assets to the Board’s strategic planning process and implementation.
The heartwarming stories of FriendshipWorks’ participants and volunteers are a constant reminder of how meaningful the Board’s work is and the direct impact it has on the mission.
As a member of the Governance Committee, Joseph says that one of his most significant achievements has been recruiting new board members who bring “outstanding qualities and diversification to the board, and whose expertise in different fields enrich the strategic thinking of the organization.”
Looking ahead, Joseph wants to help FriendshipWorks grow, particularly by expanding its reach in communities of color. He feels this is pivotal to the continued success and growth of the organization’s impact on the Greater Boston community. Joseph’s drive and dedication to the Board are fueled by the synergy between FriendshipWorks’ ethos and his own personal passion for helping people in need, and his belief in the value of connection and family.
Joseph says, “My time with FriendshipWorks has been amazing. This journey has been both enriching and inspiring, reinforcing my commitment to our mission and the belief in the power of community service to effect positive change.”
