Merging Financial Expertise with Compassionate Service

Francis Thomas brings a wealth of experience and a commitment to doing good to FriendshipWorks. He held finance positions at Raytheon, Bizland, and John Hancock Financial Services. For 19 years, he was deputy commission of finance at City of Boston’s Age Strong Commission.

He currently is the treasurer, chair of the finance oversight committee, and a board of director of Victory Human Services, a nonprofit human services agency.  He cofounded and serves as CFO of MiMiSolar, a boutique solar technology company, and cofounded BPPT Leasing, a site equipment leasing company, both located in Sierra Leone, West Africa.

He is a lifetime member of the National Association of Black Accountants, including serving as president of its Boston chapter. He continues to attend its national conference and to mentor NABA student members.

Born in Sierra Leone, he came to Boston to attend Chamberlayne Junior College, Northeastern, and then Bentley University. He loves Boston and has made considerable contributions to the communities. He served on the Business Visiting Committee of Mount Ida College and the board of the Society for the Advancement of Sierra Leonean Americans in Massachusetts. He is perhaps most proud of cofounding the Adopt-a-School program, which teaches financial literacy to high school students, and the Bentley Business Bowl, a campus-wide business case competition.

His financial work, particularly on the Age Strong Commission, gave him the eye of a grant giver, with a focus on organizations having enough resources to meet their goals. He is a long-time supporter of FriendshipWorks and its mission.

In his free time, he pursues his passion for watching, talking, reading about, and playing tennis, including organizing youth in Bo, Sierra Leone, to also get “addicted” to the sport of tennis.
